Owners together with their well behaved dogs used to be a common sight in the pubs of Ireland. In recent years this has largely become a thing of the past as health and safety regulations and PC landlords have dictated that they are not suitable in such establishments. This greatly limits the freedom of those caring dog owners who wish to take their dogs to the pub when out and about.
On an Easter visit to Cornwall, England we found that many of the pubs and hotels welcomed dogs with open arms. We felt that these loved and well-behaved canines added greatly to the friendly and homely atmosphere of the establishments.
While no one can argue against health and safety, is this a step too far? Why are dogs not viewed as un-sanitary in Cornwall - or indeed France - but they are here?
Would you have any serious objections in allowing clean, well behaved dogs into pubs in Ireland again?
