One of the finest 18th century neo-classical buildings in Ireland and indeed Europe.

Casino Marino

The Casino in Marino was designed by Sir William Chambers as a pleasure house situated in the gardens of Marino House for James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont and is one of the finest 18th century neo-classical buildings in Ireland and indeed Europe.

The name 'Casino' is the diminutive form of the 18C Italian word 'Casa', meaning 'House', thus 'Little House'. Seen from the outside, the building has the appearance of a single roomed structure, with a large panelled door on the north elevation and a single large window on each of the other elevations. This is all illusion, however, as it actually contains 16 finely decorated rooms over three floors which includes some very fine plasterwork ceilings and some elaborate hardwood parquet floors.

It is a remarkable building - both in terms of structure and history.

Opening Time:

Open Daily, 26th April - 24th October, 10am-5pm. Last admission 45 minutes before closing.

Admission Charge:

Adults €3; Child/Student €1; OAP/Group €2; Family €8.
