Craigavon, Co. Armagh

The provinces first ‘new town’ designated in 1965 was named after James Craig, Lord Craigavon, first Prime Minister of Northern Ireland. 

Lough Neagh Discovery centre is well worth a visit (0044 28 38 322 205) and includes an audio/visual display on the history and wildlife of the Lough.  The centre also offers guided walks along the Lough shore. 

Water sports enthusiasts will enjoy the Craigavon water sports centre (0044 28 38 342 669), which offers tuition on all levels of water sports. 

A charming historical place to visit is the Moneypenny’s Lock and Lock house (0044 28 38 322 205), a delightful cottage on the Newry canal, a small museum and exhibition, which displays the history of the canal. 

Golfers are can enjoy a round or two at Tandragee golf club (0044 28 38 841 272) or at Edenmore golf club (0044 28 92 611 310). 

The Craigavon City Park lakes offer anglers 168 hectares of good rainbow trout fishing.
