Wexford Food and Wine Festival

The fourth annual Wexford Food and Wine Festival has a mouthwatering programme of events for 2012 including a crackling hog Roast, a Jazz brunch, 500BC Fulacht Fiadh cooking pits at the Irish National Heritage Park, cookery demonstrations with top Wexford Chefs and a Food Producers Market.

The celebratory weekend kicks off on Thursday May 24 with a wine dinner and auction at the renowned Kellys Resort Hotel in Rosslare in La Marine Restaurant and all in aid of St Patrick’s Special School in Enniscorthy, Wexford.

New to the 2012 line-up is the Wexford Circle of Chefs featuring nine of the county’s best chefs whom will all demonstrate a range of signature dishes and culinary tips for budding chefs. This special event will be hosted by TV Chef Phelim Byrne in the Talbot Hotel on Friday, May 25 from 7.30pm; a series of Wine Tasting workshops will also take place at this event.

Wexford’s historic town Centre will be transformed in to a food hotspot on May 26 and 27 when an open air food producers market will spread along the length of Trimmer’s Lane from 10am to 5pm with additional food stands to be found in The Bullring market area showcasing the best of Wexford and surrounding region.

Visitors to the market will also have the opportunity to participate in free workshops such as Grow it Yourself, Potting Seeds for Children and Rearing Chickens and Pigs.

Visitors can witness an ancient cooking demonstration dating from Bronze Age Ireland. This Fulacht Fiadh demo will take place at 12 noon and 2 pm on Sat 26 and Sun 27 May at the Irish National Heritage Park, Wexford. In association with the Wexford Food festival the Park will offer half price admission on presentation of a special voucher which are available from various stall holders at the Food Festival.

A restaurant trail crisscrossing the town of Wexford will offer food lovers the opportunity to sample the best Wexford eateries from traditional Irish cuisine to Mediterranean food.

Finishing the festival in style a Jazz Brunch will take place on Sunday, May 27 in the Talbot Hotel where local produce will be on offer accompanied by the sounds of a Jazz quartet.
