Rathmullan, Co. Donegal

Rathmullan (Ráth Maoláin in Irish) is a small seaside village in County Donegal. It is situated on the western shore of Lough Swilly, 11 km (6.5 miles) north-east of Ramelton and 12 km (7.5 miles) east of Milford. Rathmullan was the scene of the Flight of the Earls in 1607.

The area offers some of the best beaches and the most beautiful scenery in the whole country. Near at hand pleasant walks and drives can be had to Kinnegar Strand, Mill Bay, Lamb's Head Bay and Scraggy bay in the North, and Cul Bay, Rathmullan Woods and Ray Bridge in the South.

Rathmullan itself features a truly beautiful golden sandy beach, which extends as far as the eye can see. In addition, a short 10-minute drive along the beautiful Fanad Drive, you will find Ballymastocker Bay Beach, which was named by the Observer as one of the top ten beaches in the world.

There are four golf courses near by to Rathmullan including Portsalon, Dunfanaghy, Rosapenna and a 9-hole course in Rathmullan itself.

The Golden Sands equestrian centre is a superb new facility offering pony trekking on forest tracks, unspoilt beaches and quiet country roads in the magnificent scenery of the Rathmullan area. All ride outs are accompanied by an experienced guide.

Quad Safaring, indoor Karting, clay pigeon shooting and paintball shooting are all also available close by.

Glenveagh National Park with its famous castle and gardens is nearby and next to it is the renowned Glebe Gallery at Church Hill. In addition, there is the corn and Flax mills, Ramelton Heritage Centre, the Rathmullan Flight of the Earl’s Centre and Ballydaheen Gardens. In addition, a trip to Northern Ireland including the Giant’s Causeway is always an enjoyable outing.
