Right in the centre of Monaghan, the Redmond family’s bar is furnished and decorated in traditional Victorian style, with a lot of fine mahogany, stained glass and mirrors.
Everything is gleaming clean and arranged well for comfort, with high-backed bar seats and plenty of alcoves set up with tables for the comfortable consumption of their good bar food. Substantial bar meals include a range of specials on a blackboard as well as a concise written menu.
The restaurant upstairs, which has a pleasingly old-fashioned ambience, offers a much more extensive range of popular and classic dishes, including a good choice of prime fish and steaks various ways.
This is good cooking based on quality ingredients and the results are extremely tasty, satisfying - and good value too. Traditional desserts like pavlova and home-made ices are served from a trolley.
Members of the Redmond family keep a constant eye on everything, and service is charming and efficient.
