Canters Restaurant

This chic addition to urban Northside Dublin dining is a sister restaurant to the well-established Washerwoman's Hill Restaurant in Glasnevin (see entry) and it strikes a happy balance between the needs of those who simply want to 'eat out' and those who feel the need for a smarter dining experience.

Starters such as garlic mushrooms with goats cheese crumble and sun dried tomato pesto offer a nod to older tastes with some modern twists; main courses tend towards the traditional and hearty - rack of lamb with dauphinoise potatoes, perhaps - but lighter, more contemporary options include good pasta dishes, which may also be vegetarian, such as red pepper and basil linguine with seared hollumi cheese.

Ever-popular char-grilled steaks are here too of course - and fish choices can include modern dishes like monkfish tail in pancetta, with marjoram and mushroom risotto & lemongrass dressing.

An attractive dessert choice offers some refreshing dishes and might include old favourites like lemon posset - charming.

Canters have structured their menu to appeal to the diversity of their local clientele, but this is definitely a notch above your usual neighbourhood restaurant.
