Chez Youen
Youen Jacob's Breton restaurant has brought many bon viveurs to Baltimore since they first opened here in 1979. Although other fine eating places have sprung up around him, Youen is still doing what he does best: simple but dramatic presentation of seafood in the shell. Lobster is very much a speciality and available all year round. The Shellfish Platter(EUR50) is a sight to behold: a complete meal of Dublin Bay Prawns, crab and often velvet crab as well as lobster - all served in shell. Only minor concessions are made to non-fish eaters - starters of leek and potato soup or melon with port and, correspondingly, half a duck with wild mushroom sauce or steak with peppercorn sauce for main course, although vegetarians are willingly catered for, and staff are extremely pleasant and helpful generally. Outstanding wine list: Youen imports a wide range of wines directly from France (see website for full details).
