Resplendent with abundant window boxes spilling over pink and black paintwork, this handsome traditional pub in Galway occupies a prominent corner position on Middle Street and Cross Street and proudly proclaims its establishment in 1759 beneath an elegant round clock.
In common ownership with Tom Sheridan’s Bar & Restaurant this fine city centre establishment is a middle-of-the road bar with a strong food component. Like its sister establishment, it bears the hallmark of competent, customer-oriented management, with friendly staff and good standards of hygiene.
Menus - featuring soups, sandwiches, salads, pastas, roasts, burgers, vegetarian dishes and daily specials to include fish - offer popular fare, mainly international in tone but also including some traditional dishes, like seafood chowder and beef & Guinness stew. Prices are moderate, with most main course prices ranging between about €10 and €13.
While not adventurous, cooking is above the standard normally expected in pubs, and includes plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options.
A short wine lists offer reasonably priced wines by the glass, and bottles under €20.
