Drumcreehy House
Just along the road beyond the Whitethorn restaurant and craftshop, Armin and Bernadette Grefkes' attractive purpose-built guesthouse makes a comfortable and moderately-priced base for a break in this lovely area and is a delightful place to stay.
The furnishing style is a mixture of old and new with antiques and newer country furnishings blending well; front bedrooms have sea views across Galway Bay while those at the back have a pleasant outlook over the Burren - and all have phones and television.
There's also a comfortable sitting room with an open fire available for guests' use and everything is spotless and full of character.
A very good breakfast includes local cheese, from Annaliese Bartelink in Kilnaboy, gravadlax, smoked salmon and unsusual hot dishes such as herrings with horseradish sauce as well as the more usual options.
Free broadband wi/fi. Beach nearby (10 minute walk). Garden. Rooms 10 (all en-suite & no smoking, 2 family, 2 ground floor). Children welcome (cot available without charge, baby sitting arranged); Pets permitted. B&B €55 pps, ss €16. Closed 24-26 Dec. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
