Just along the shore road towards Galway, Armin and Bernadette Grefkes' attractive purpose-built guesthouse makes a comfortable and moderately-priced base for a break in this lovely area and is a delightful place to stay.
The furnishing style is a mixture of old and new with antiques and newer country furnishings blending well; front bedrooms have sea views across Galway Bay while those at the back have a pleasant outlook over the Burren - and all have phones and television. There are two ground floor rooms suitable for less able guests, although there are a couple of steps to negotiate at the front door.
There's also a comfortable bar and sitting room with an open fire available for guests' use, and everything is spotless and full of character.
A very good breakfast includes local cheese, from Annaliese Bartelink in Kilnaboy, gravadlax, smoked salmon and unusual hot dishes such as herrings with horseradish sauce as well as the more usual options.
Family-friendly and pet-friendly, this makes great base for an active holiday, or just for exploring the area.
