This, the third and most recent of Erik and Michelle Robson's wine bar/cafés, is south of the river in the relatively new Hanover Quay area of the city.
On a corner site, it's an angular premises with huge windows and, with hard lines, drum lamp shades, canteen style tables and (a few) large flower motifs on soft furnishings, there's a retro-60s feel to the décor.
It has a young, stylish atmosphere, a strong cocktail menu, the great wine list that has become the trademark of the Ely group, and large eating areas on two levels, ground floor and downstairs - and a fully heated covered terrace area.
Smartly presented menus offer a choice of about a dozen starters and main courses, with the familiar emphasis on well-sourced ingredients, but with a rather more sophisticated tone than the other Ely menus.
On the lunch menu, wine suggestions from Ely's phenomenal wines-by-the-glass list are made for every dish - and a euro from every order of organic bangers with sauerkraut mash goes to Barnardos.
Good service is a strong point and Ely Gastro Pub Grand Canal Square is already proving a real winner in this fast-maturing and attractive area of the city.
