Gaby's Seafood Restaurant

One of Ireland’s longest established seafood restaurants, Gaby’s is expensive, but it has a pleasantly informal atmosphere.

There’s a cosy little bar beside an open fire just inside the door, then several steps lead up to the main dining area, which is cleverly broken up into several sections to make more intimate dining spaces.

Chef-proprietor Gert Maes offers well structured seasonal à la carte menus in classic French style and in three languages.

This is one of the great classic Irish kitchens and absolute freshness is clearly the priority; there are specials on every evening and a note on the menu reminds guests that availability depends on daily landings; but there’s always plenty else to choose from, with steaks and local lamb among the favourites.

This Killarney Restaurants specialities include Atlantic prawns on a bed of tagliatelle in a light garlic sauce and lobster “Gaby”: fresh lobster, cognac, wine, cream and spices - cooked to a secret recipe!

Lovely desserts include “my mother’s recipe” - an old-fashioned apple & raspberry crumble - or you can finish with an Irish cheese selection and freshly brewed coffee.

An impressive wine list offers about fifteen interesting house wines by the bottle or glass, and many special bottles, although vintages are not always given.

Seats 75 D only, Mon-Sat 6-10; gourmet menu about €50, also á la carte; house wine €25; sc discretionary. Toilets wheelchair accessible; air conditioning; children welcome (high chair). Closed Sun (& Mon, Tue - Jan-Mar). Amex, MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
