The Gibson Hotel

The O2 has a new neighbour. Sitting right across The Point Square, a literal stone’s throw from its doors, is the brand new Gibson Hotel.

Housed in a sparkling glass and steel building that fits right in with its shiny IFSC neighbours the glamorous new hotel has been designed to attract more then just business travellers.

Superbly located for attending a show, and with a Luas stop right outside the door, The Gibson is a stylish and comfortable choice for a city break. Glass lifts takes guests from ground level to the third floor of the building where the hotel’s reception area, bars and restaurant are located.

Here a spacious heated terrace runs along the front of the hotel where drinks and food can be enjoyed while you take in a bird’s eye view of the Point Village market below, the ships at Dublin port, the city skyline and the imposing venue across the square.

This Dublin Hotels bar and restaurant also wrap around a leafy internal courtyard which guarantees to be a popular spot for drinks in warmer weather.

Bedrooms offer a choice of city vistas or different courtyard views, thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass walls that flood each room with light. The chic mushroom colour scheme includes smart fitted storage and the well-designed rooms boast luxurious touches like Egyptian cotton sheets, comfy seating, potted calla lilies and Gaggia coffee machines complete with complimentary tea, coffee and shortbread biscuits.

Bathrooms in cool shades of coffee and cream are well lit with good shelf space around the sink and impressive shower cubicles that offer two kinds of showerheads. The Natural Extracts toiletries are nice but we’d have appreciated cotton wool and buds too.

Coda Eatery, which serves Pan-Asian food by night, makes a bright and stylish location for the excellent buffet breakfast the next day.

Delicious breads and pastries, platters of fresh fruit and berries, and cheeses and smoked salmon can be followed by cooked to order porridge with cinnamon and honey or a hot breakfast that includes quality sausages, creamy scrambled eggs and juicy Portobello mushrooms. At €10-15 per head it’s one of the best value breakfasts in the city.

The Gibson excels in thoughtful touches – complimentary newspapers in the public areas, free WiFi, dishes of savoury nuts with your drinks, a phone call to enquire if you like your room – and the staff are extremely friendly, interested and obliging (although we’d liked to have seen more looking after guests at breakfast.)

A small but well equipped gym and treatment rooms are on the top floor.

The public car park on Sheriff Street provides direct access to the hotel and guests can avail of a special €14 tariff for 24-hours.

Stylish and well located The Gibson has lots to offer the business or leisure traveller.

Rooms 252. Conferences (300); Meeting rooms, broadband wi/fi (free), laptop sized safes in bedrooms.
