Claudio, Rachel and Dario Cavilieri’s popular Italian restaurant is in a graceful Georgian building on Waterford’s Mall.
The restaurant is downstairs in a series of pleasant high-ceilinged Georgian rooms, with reception upstairs in a tall navy and beige drawing room, now working as a cocktail bar; here guests are greeted and seated, and offered a drink while you look at the menu - mainly an à la carte, but there’s also a very good value midweek “Treat” menu offered.
The tone is rustic - dishes might include hearty bruschetta, pasta or confit of duck, and classic tiramisu –and meals begin generously, with a little amuse bouche and a choice of breads. Service is very pleasant and attentive, and the wine waiter is happy to give a good recommendation for the perfect bottle to accompany your meal.
Good coffee to finish, and an agreeably reasonable bill. [The old Palma is now called the Espresso and serves pizzas and pasta.]
