McCambridges of Galway

The name is now synonymous with bread - their extended family's famous little loaves of pre-sliced brown soda bread are widely distributed, and the selection has grown over the years. It now includes some artisan breads and also a very welcome Gluten Free range, such as brown and white soda bread, fruit bread, a tomato and basil bread, several types of scone and other breads.

But there is much more than bread to this family owned deli and fine foods shop on Galway's main street. Established in 1925 and now run by siblings Eoin, Natalie and Norma, who take pride in continuing the family tradition, it's first port of call for many food lovers visiting Galway.

You'll find an ever-changing range of carefully selected food and wines from Ireland and abroad, including artisan jams, preserves, chutneys, Irish cheeses, speciality meats, ice creams - and, especially, irresistible Irish and continental chocolates including the gorgeous Skelligs from the Ring of Kerry.

There is a café on the ground floor, with pavement tables that are a popular place to watch the world go by on bustling Shop Street, and the first floor now operates very successfully as a restaurant (see separate entry, Upstairs at McCambridges).

Customised gift hampers are a speciality; browse the website and call, or email to order.
