Mourne Seafood Bar

A prominent black and white 19th century terrace building in the centre of Dundrum, Robert and Joanne McCoubrey’s lively and informal two-storey seafood restaurant and fish shop is the best bet for seafood in the Mourne area - and much appreciated by the many happy punters who relish the ultra fresh fish and seafood offered.

They specialise in fresh fish from the local ports of Keel and Annalong, and mussels, oysters and cockles from their own shellfish beds on Carlingford Lough - and, like the sister restaurant run by Andy Rae in Belfast (Mourne Seafood Bar Belfast see entry), they use local fish that is not under threat such as gurnard and ling, helping to take the pressure off species like cod, so their extensive menu changes according to what is caught.

Very friendly, family-tolerant staff deserve special mention, and the wine list is short and interesting - and (always an interesting choice) the sparkling water offered is San Pelligrino.

*Also now at the smart modern Mourne Café (028 437 26401 at 107 Central Promenade, Newcastle. *The McCoubreys also run Mourne Coastal Tours ( www.mournecoastaltours.com) , offering boat trips of 15 minutes -1 hour along this beautiful coast.
