Radisson SAS Hotel Belfast
The hard red brick high-rise exterior may not be immediately pleasing, but you are in for a very pleasant surprise on entering this new hotel, which is uncompromisingly modern - and very impressive.
Most strikingly, a highly original water feature seen through a glass wall has been created from the old 'grave dock' that was once a turning space for the boats coming up to the gasworks to deliver coal, and has ingeniously been incorporated into the design of the hotel - both restaurant and bar overlook this extraordinary feature, and it is worth a journey to see this alone.
Other parts of the hotel may seem relatively unexciting by comparison with the public areas, but accommodation is designed and finished to the same high standard as other Radisson hotels - and, like them, a choice of room styles is offered: 'Urban' is warm and vibrant, in tones of reds and browns, while 'Nordic' is more restful, with soft blond wood surfaces, and gentle blues and browns.
Suites and rooms have everything that the modern traveller could need, and more (the lavishly furnished Suite 7 is Belfast's largest one bedroom suite), and there's a welcome emphasis on customer service.
Staff clearly take great pride in this hotel, and it is easy to see why.
