Sheridan's on the Dock

A lovely stone building on the corner of the docks nearest the city, this is one of Galway’s oldest pubs dating back to at least 1882, when the writer Padraic O’Conaire was born there.

A sailor’s pub, it still has local clientele and is now owned by the Sheridans of cheese fame, and managed by Seamus Sheridan. It has been completely refurbished with black slate floors, white walls, pine tables, little stools and moss green window seats.

It is a pub with - according to Seamus - the cheapest pint in Galway, the biggest selection of beers and the biggest selection of wines (at least 40 to date).

Added to this is the best Honduras coffee and a small menu of some of the foods from their shop in the city, with plans for a restaurant upstairs (nearing completion at the time of going to press).

A short menu might include a ham hock, chorizo & bean stew, a smoked seafood board, and of course, a fine cheese board.

*Also at: Sheridans Shop & The Winebar, 14-16 Churchyard Street (091 564832; opposite St Nicholas’ Church), where wine classes, readings, private parties and events can be held.

Open Tue-Fri, 1-9pm; Sat 1-7pm. Food served daily. Closed Sun, Mon. Amex, Diners, MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
