Silks
This smart Chinese restaurant is spacious, modern and airy, with cheerful decor, and staff who are friendly and helpful, to match.
The long menu is predictable, offering all the familiar set menus and dishes - the sizzlers and sweet & sours are there, along with Peking duck with pancakes, spiced chicken, and shared starter platters (spring rolls, chicken satay, spare ribs, wontons) followed, perhaps, by Garlic Prawn, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Duck Cantonese Style and Beef with Green Peppers, along with side dishes like Yung Chow Fried Rice.
Desserts are unsurprising: banana fritters with an above average vanilla ice cream, perhaps, or a simple bowl of lychees.
Silks may not be the first port of call for those seeking genuinely authentic chinese cuisine - there is a sense that the cooking has been 'dumbed down' for the Irish palate - but this has never been an issue with the loyal customers of this enormously popular neighbourhood restaurant, who have always enjoyed the busy atmosphere and friendly service.
