Stella Maris Hotel Kilkee
Aside from its appeal as a golfing destination, the seaside town of Kilkee is the traditional family holiday destination par excellence - many would say there is nowhere else to be during the long Irish summer holidays.
If staying in an impersonal modern hotel is not your thing, consider Ann and Martin Haugh's long established family-run hotel in the centre of Kilkee, overlooking the bay. Child and pet-friendly, with clean simple accommodation including two family rooms, this is not a smart or fashionable place to stay (some parts of the hotel were in need of refurbishment at the time of the Guide's summer 2006) but there is a great sense of hospitality, the rooms are gradually being upgraded and the overall feeling is one of traditional old-fashioned comfort.
And you will eat well too: generous, wholesome food based on local ingredients (seafood from nearby Carrigholt, Burren lamb) is served in the both the bars and restaurant - this warm and friendly hotel is just the place for a relaxed family holiday.
Small conferences/Banqueting (30/60), free broadband WI/FI. Children welcome (under 3s free in parents' room, cots available free of charge). Rooms 19 (7 shower only, 2 family rooms, 1 for disabled, all no smoking); pets permitted by arrangement; lift for 2007 season. B&B EUR65 pps. Closed 25 Dec.
