The Islanders Rest

Just a 10 minute ferry trip across Baltimore harbour (foot passengers only), Sherkin is a small island about 3.5 miles long by 11/2 miles wide with a population of only a hundred or so, and three lovely safe beaches.

This recently-built hotel would make a comfortable base for a break and is understandably popular for weddings, as the island location has romantic appeal.

The bar offers a good choice of dishes - great steaks with garlic butter and chips. Pleasant service by staff and owner.

Rooms 21 (all en-suite). Large bedrooms include some family rooms with four beds, and most have stunning views; all have good quality pine beds and soft furnishings, television, phone and en-suite bathroom, although the price may seem high for the standard offered.

There's a large breakfast room for guests as well as a sitting room with open fire place.

Conference/banqueting (40/110). Children welcome (under 3s free in parents' bedroom, cot available). Fishing, walking, garden. Pool table. No pets. B&B EUR65 pps, ss EUR20. SC discretionary. Open all year but a phone call is essential to check in winter. Ferry enquiries: Tel 028 20218.
