The Twelfth Lock is a small hotel in a picturesque location beside the Royal Canal. It has a warm, friendly atmosphere and the main bar is modern, light and airy, with a variety of high and low wooden tables dotted around, and a fine fire that would warm up the coldest evening - and, there's also a sizeable heated deck with views out over the canal.
Interesting bar menus offer a good range of quality, informal fare such as lamb chops or grilled salmon steak, with good vegetarian choices also.
Attentive staff cope well even when the bar is busy but, as it is very popular but not very large, it's wise to get here early.
*The Bar Bistro offers a slightly more formal evening dining experience, Wednesday-Saturday only.
