The Salthouse Hotel Ballycastle Co Antrim

The Salthouse Hotel Ballycastle Co Antrim

With magnificent sea views across to Rathlin Island and beyond, this unique and constantly evolving 4-star eco hotel on the edge of Ballycastle town counts the freshest of local foods and a spa with indoor and outdoor features among its many attractions Having opened in 2019, it has not been an easy journey for owner Denis McHenry and the McGarrity family (well known in the area from The Red Door Tearoom in Ballintoy). But they have since continued to develop it to create a unique eco destination with wide appeal. Most recently, the aptly named Lookout Bar and Restaurant opened very successfully, to offer a smart-casual alternative to the main restaurant, and there are many more exciting plans in the making, including adding more rooms. Nothing stands still at The Salthouse and, with this year’s see-sawing extremes of weather highlighting the arrival of climate change, we have never needed can-do examples of sustainable building – and sustainable hospitality – more.
