Bright, spacious and welcoming, Patrick and Anna Casey’s well-named B&B is quietly situated close to the beaches and good walking that bring so many people to the area, but it’s also very handy for anyone attending a course at Ballymaloe Cookery School, or visiting their wonderful gardens.
This is a relaxing place to stay, with a taste of Anna’s home baking to welcome you on arrival (freshly baked scones and homemade jam, perhaps) and plenty of lounging space for guests. There’s a sunny conservatory and pleasant gardens to enjoy on fine days, and an open log fire in the comfortable sitting room where you can watch TV or browse the interesting books left out for guests.
Patrick and Anna take pride in making sure everyone starts the day well fed too - you may spot the chickens strutting around that will provide fresh free-range eggs for your breakfast. And you’ll no doubt want to linger over your breakfast so that you can enjoy the idyllic views of the Cork countryside and Ballycotton Bay.
Rooms vary in size and outlook, but all are en-suite, good-sized, comfortably furnished and neat as a pin. The house is modern, but anyone with an interest in history will be quick to notice the old stone ruins at the back. There are stories a-plenty to be told, so make sure you ask Patrick and Anna all about it - and about other things of interest nearby - as they clearly enjoy helping their guests get the most out of their time in the area.
