Newpark House

Strange as it may seem to find an authentic farmhouse in an unspoilt country setting within easy walking distance of Ennis town centre, the Barron family home is a genuine exception.
Rooms 6 (all en-suite & no smoking, 1 shower only; 1 family room). B&B from €55pps. Children welcome (under 4s free in parents' room, cot available free of charge, baby sitting arranged); pets permitted by arrangement. Closed 1 Nov-Easter. MasterCard, Visa. abbreviations

Strange as it may seem to find an authentic farmhouse in an unspoilt country setting within easy walking distance of Ennis town centre, the Barron family home is a genuine exception. Now run by Declan Barron, this 300 year old house is of great historic interest and has large homely rooms furnished with old family furniture, and a quiet atmosphere.

Bedrooms vary in size and character, but are comfortable and full of interest; all are en-suite and the bathrooms also vary considerably, due to the nature of the old building – and that is a great part of the charm of the house, and what gives it that special character and authenticity which is becoming increasingly rare.

While not exactly a grand house, it does have some grand features - such as lovely old canopy beds - and Declan is constantly busy with the small improvements that make for a comfortable stay, including modernising the bathrooms as well as regular painting and decorating.

It is certainly a quirky property, but regular guests adore the place and would stay nowhere else. The fields and trees surrounding the house are unique for a town property and its exceptionally convenient location makes it a useful base for touring the area, following country pursuits (golf, horse riding, fishing, walking) or genealogy - there's a lot of fascinating and useful historical material in the house and the Barrons, who are always interested in their guests, can give advice on researching your roots.
