The Blueberry Tea Room

Going strong since 1993, and just as good as ever - Brian and Ruperta Gallagher’s popular, moderately priced daytime restaurant looks cosy and appealing with its traditional small-paned windows, window boxes and welcoming menus at the door to draw you in
Seats 60. Open all day Mon-Sat 9am-6pm. Children welcome (high chair, menu). Air conditioning. Closed Sun. MasterCard,Visa abbreviations

In the centre of Donegal Town – just off The Diamond and close to the castle – Brian and Ruperta Gallagher’s popular, moderately priced daytime restaurant looks cosy and appealing with its traditional small-paned windows, window boxes and welcoming menus at the door to draw you in.

And, once inside this friendly little place, you may well be hooked by the sight and aromas of the good home cooking that is their stock in trade.

Modest enough and tightly packed with regulars of all ages who keep coming back for wholesome, well cooked food with lots of flavour, this is a place with the buzz of locals who know good quality and value when they see it.

They start early, so you can lay a good foundation for a busy day with a hearty breakfast - but if planning to drop by for lunch, get there early or you might have to queue.

Expect soups, sandwiches and toasties, wraps, panini, salads, quiches and a blackboard menu listing hot dishes of the day – all simple enough fare, but base on good ingredients, well-made and full of flavour.

The home-made desserts invariably come in for special praise, and then there’s a wide range of home-baked cakes, cookies and biscuits to eat in or take away. These tempting treats are all cannily displayed on the way in, so you can't miss them - not too many people get out of here without having the dessert they didn't mean to order.

Children are welcome and a separate children’s menu is offered.

Going strong since 1993, and just as good as ever.
