For over a decade, good home cooking has been the attraction at Aileen Hart and Tony O’Mahoney’s friendly coffee shop in Clonakilty town centre, and the consistently high standard they have maintained over that time has regulars making a beeline for this welcoming spot as soon as they hit town.
A nifty little menu offers all kinds of healthy meals - ranging from a breakfast ciabatta with bacon, eggs & cheese, through warm baguettes (peppered steak strips, perhaps, with lettuce and mayo), sandwiches toasted and cool - all served with side salad & home-made vinaigrette dressing - to specials such as an Ummera smoked chicken Caesar or Irish cheese plate with a choice of crackers or bread.
A Specials board suggests additions to the regular menu - soups (vegetables, perhaps, or pea & mint) based on home-made stocks, which are also used in traditional stews (beef & Beamish, perhaps), available in regular or large portions.
But best of all, perhaps, is the choice of home-baked scones just like your granny used to make, served with cream, and tarts - everything from a vegetarian quiche to an old-fashioned apple tart - and cakes ranging from healthy carrot cake to gooey orange chocolate drizzle cake.
Simple, wholesome, home-made: just lovely!
Great selection of drinks too, including freshly squeezed juices teas and Greenbean coffees.
