Johnny’s Ranch Food Truck

It may not look too promising in the daytime when it's closed up and the only sign of life is the rumbling generator - but come back later on and Johnny’s Ranch Food Truck on the Ramelton quayside may surprise you.
Usually open from 4pm daily. (Check Facebook or ring for confirmation.) Prices from about €5.20 (local sausages & chips) to about €9.90 (Lennonside beef stroganoff with rice or chips). No cards - cash only. abbreviations

It may not look too promising in the daytime when it's closed up and the only sign of life is the rumbling generator - but come back later on and Johnny’s Ranch food truck on the Ramelton quayside may surprise you.

The first thing that you'll notice is the emphasis on freshness and quality - "Fresh tasty, local food' is the message across the back of the little truck - and, with fish by Albatross Seafood (Killybegs) and meats from local Lennonside Butchers (up the quay), that's exactly what you'll get.

And then there's the amazing choice. Fresh Killybegs Haddock & handcut chips, Finger licking wings, Breaded chicken goujons & dip with handcut chips, burgers, beef stroganoff (with rice or chips), Lennonside steak baguette with all the trimmings, local sausages and chips. And more.

Together with what looks like a growing list of well earned accolades, it's all squeezed onto menus on not one but two blackboards at the front of the truck where Johnny Patterson and his helper are hard at work. “Don't worry about the wee wait,’ he says, “Your order is cooked from scratch here. No precook in this truck”. And it is worth waiting for - generous, well cooked and really tasty.

Using well sourced local ingredients and cooking everything to order has made this a go-to destination a for a wholesome, well priced bite to eat - and on a fine evening it's a scenic riverside spot to enjoy it too. The rusting public seats alongside the truck may not appeal, but you can sit on the quayside wall or in your car - or take it away, of course.
