One of a small family-owned chain of supermarkets committed to providing good service and locally sourced food since 1951 when it was established in Headford - on the site of the present Headford store and head office - by Patrick C Joyce. Now run by his grandson, Pat Joyce, the business has lost none of its special qualities and is well known for taking an active role in the local community.
Support of locally produced goods distinguishes Joyces in the region, with many products sourced from Irish suppliers; 100% Irish meats, including Connemara Hill Lamb, are supplied by Gilligan Meats and Loughnanes. Fish comes from a range of respected suppliers including Burren Smokehouse, Galway Bay Seafoods, Kinvara Smoked Salmon and The Fisherman - and numerous other suppliers, many of them small producers, are credited on their website.
Following the success of the Headford store, Joyces opened in Knocknacarra in 1999, and further branches were later added in Athenry, Tuam and, more recently, a new store opened in Inverin, Co. Galway in 2014.
The efforts of the Joyces family are rewarded with frequent accolades, including the the Glanbia Best in Fresh Awards, in 2012, and REI (Retail Excellence Ireland) Store of the Year in 2013.
