Good old-fashioned hospitality is something that’s done well in the Longford Arms. Set directly off the main street, this smartly maintained hotel is in the heart of the town and is the hub of community activities.

The leisure centre has state-of-the art TechnoGym equipment and a 22-metre saltwater pool, which is unique in the south of Ireland and popular with locals and visitors alike.

Sitting out at the back you might think you have gone back in time, as there’s a small streetscape with four very realistic shop facades. Inside, the hotel has undergone some refurbishment and the good-sized bedrooms are modern and stylish, suiting business travellers as well leisure guests.

Extensive conference facilities for up to 700 people are a big draw, and a one-wedding-a-day policy make the hotel a popular choice for couples tying the knot, with everything tailored to individual needs.

Local activities include golf, angling and equestrian activities as well as watersports on the Shannon, while anyone interested in history will enjoy seeing the recently discovered Old Bog Road, an Iron Age trackway of large oak planks in a bog at Corlea.

Informal meals are available in the bistro/carvery during the day and there’s a bar menu in the evenings.
