The Fitzwilton Hotel & ChezKs Restaurant

Centrally located close to the quay, this modern 4* hotel is within comfortable walking distance of all the main visitor attractions in Waterford City.

A bright reception area with attractive casual seating makes a good first impression and it’s a pleasant, if slightly impersonal, place to stay or to drop into for a break in the large café-bar, The Met, which features a lovely display of Waterford Crystal and offers an all-day menu (12-9 daily).

A wide range of guest rooms is offered and this includes not only the luxury of a penthouse suite and the convenience of family rooms - but, unusually, also generous single rooms, making this an ideal choice for business travellers. All are all furnished to a high standard, with good en-suite bathrooms (shower and bath), work stations and all the amenities that today’s traveller demands.

A very good cooked breakfast based on top quality local ingredients is served in the main dining room, Chez K's. The artisan producers who supply many of the ingredients are listed on the menu – along with the story of the Waterford Blaa, a unique bread roll made in Waterford and parts of neighbouring Kilkenny.

Chez-K’s

A large high bright room with plenty of natural light and large paintings by artist Darlene Garr on the walls, the restaurant offers cooking well above the standard normally expected of hotels.

You might begin with an appealing Bluebell Falls goats cheese tartlet with herb and walnut crumble, apple and beetroot salad and balsamic glaze, or a duo of mushrooms, baby spinach, roast garlic and herb cream, with won ton pastry.

Interesting main courses could include braised belly of pork with refreshing gooseberry compote, along with a purée of Clonakility black pudding, fondant potato andsautéed greens - and perhaps an unusual and very enjoyable polenta crusted breast of chicken, with baby spinach, sweet potato and onion bahji, coconut and masala sauce.

And, to finish, Wexford strawberry shortbread, with vanilla cream and a strawberry and anise compote makes a lovely summer dessert.

Service is friendly, although it may be lacking in direction.
