In this charming Shannonside village, Dagmar Hilty's welcoming café is easily found on the main street. There is a Liechtenstein family interest in this simply decorated little place, so visitors from continental Europe are set at ease.
Evening menus include a well-priced five-course dinner as well as an à la carte and, although the surroundings may be simple, there is an obvious commitment to quality. Locally sourced ingredients are a point of pride, with suppliers credited on the menus - and sauces are not only home-made, but also gluten-free.
The range offered is impressive for a small seasonal restaurant and, while there are variations on many popular 'dinner' dishes - steaks, shank of lamb, poached salmon - a moderately priced range of simple spaghetti dishes and chicken dishes (stir fry or curry) is also offered. Vegetarians should enjoy one of the house specialities, a home-mad vegetable strudel with creamy parsley fresh herbs and white wine sauce.
On Sunday (and bank holiday Mondays), there is a 3 or 4 course set lunch menu, offering a balanced selection from the dishes on evening menus and a Sunday roast special.
The wine list includes well chosen house wine by the glass, and BYO is also welcome.
