Ballyliffin Lodge and Spa

This impressive hotel in Ballyliffin village is a great asset to the area - with a beautiful view, space and comfort. Public areas include a traditional bar, Mamie Pat’s, and the spacious guest rooms are finished to a high standard with many extras.

General Manager Cecil Doherty, who is also a joint-proprietor of the hotel, has considered every detail including excellent on-site leisure facilities, with swimming pool and spa treatments.

Discounts are available for hotel guests at Ballyliffin GC, and short breaks are offered. The hotel also accepts wedding parties (remember the Donegal catch-phrase is ‘up here it’s different’).

Conference/banqueting 500/400; secretarial service, free broadband wi/fi. Children welcome (under 5 free in parents' room, free cot available, kids club). Leisure centre (fitness room, pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room), Spa (treatments, massage, yoga), beauty salon. Golf nearby.

Rooms 40 (12 junior suites, 4 superior, 4 disabled, all no smoking). B&B €80-99 pps low-high season, ss €25. Lift. Room service (limited hours). Open all year except 25 Dec & Good Fri.

Holly Tree Restaurant:

There is a classic and intimate feel to this rather small exclusive room: head chef Peter Chessman is well known in the area for his commitment to local produce, notably fresh fish, and accomplished modern cooking - and people travel specially to eat here.

Evening menus offer the choice of a set dinner or an à la carte, typically including pan roasted fillet of Greencastle landed plaice on a buttermilk and scallion creamed potato, or the ever popular roast rack of Irish lamb with a brioche and herb crust, roasted baby fennel, which is served with a lamb sausage and rosemary jus.

Desserts may include a luscious and unusual Black Mission fig tart tatin. A well thought out wine list includes plenty of half bottles, and service is excellent.

NB: A formal lunch is only available on Sunday, and is very different from the evening dining experience; as it is very popular, it is served in the much larger Aughrim Suite and a substantial carvery is provided.
