Beach Bar/Aughris House

The McDermott family’s picturesque and beautifully located thatched pub seems too good to be true when you first find it in this quiet and unspoilt place, but there it has been since the 18th century when, apparently, it was a shibín known as Maggie Maye’s.

Today, after sensitive restoration, it has retained some of the best characteristics of the past and makes a lovely stopping place, with food served in the flag-stoned bar - and access to a beach just a hop across the wall from the car park.

Wholesome, home-cooked meals are served here - creamy Atlantic seafood chowder, great steaks, bangers and mash, and delicious home-made desserts too.

Aughris House:

In a neat bungalow just beside the pub and overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the McDermotts also offer comfortable, inexpensive, family-friendly B&B accommodation, with neat shower rooms and TV. Complimentary tea and biscuits on arrival.



Children welcome (under 2 free in parents' room, cot available, baby sitting arranged); pets allowed in some areas. Garden, scenic walks, sandy beach, boat trips and sea angling arranged. B&B €35 pps, single about €40. (Short breaks & family rates available). Open all year. MasterCard, Visa.
