Black Oak
Set on a hillside with views over Liscannor Bay, Tom & Bernie Hamilton's large modern house may not look like a restaurant, but it is well-established and very comfortable, with plenty of sofas and chairs in the smallish reception area.
The warm-toned dining room has well-spaced, well-appointed tables, fresh flowers, good linen and glasses an attractive setting for Bernie's good cooking.
Her moderately priced menus offer a fair choice, with starters like St Tola goat cheese, crab in filo pastry and mussels in wine, and main courses such as rack of lamb and the house speciality of Seafood Pot (a selection of fish cooked in a tomato, leek, saffron & garlic sauce and served in its own pot), well-presented with a selection of side vegetables.
Desserts tend towards the classics - lemon tart, variations on créme brûlée.
This restaurant delivers what it promises: good fresh food, with a high level of comfort and service at reasonable prices - booking is essential.
