The Brindle Beam Tea Rooms

This in-store self-service restaurant is a real one-off. Nothing is bought in and the kitchen team, puts the emphasis firmly on real home cooking.

There are two freshly-made soups each day and hot dishes like beef stew, made with well trimmed fat-free chump steak - with no onions. None of the pies or casseroles contain onions as some customers don’t like them, but they’re still full of flavour.

Their salad cart is a special attraction, with anything up to 30 different salads served each day, and several different hot dishes including baked or grilled chicken breasts, salmon and always some vegetarian dishes too. There’s also a huge variety of tray bakes and desserts - and only real fresh cream is used.

Scrupulously clean, with reasonable prices (not cheap, but good value for the quality) and real home cooking, this place is a gem.

Seats 110 (private room 50). Open Mon-Sat, 10-4, L 12-2.30, Afternoon Tea 2-4pm. A la carte self-service except special set menus, e.g. Christmas. Unlicensed. Closed Sun, 25-26 Dec, Easter, 12-13 Jul. MasterCard, Visa.
