Bruckless House
Clive and Joan Evans’ lovely 18th-century house and Connemara pony stud farm is set in 18 acres of woodland and gardens overlooking Bruckless Bay - an ideal place for people who enjoy quiet countryside and pursuits like walking, horse-riding and fishing.
The gardens are open to the public at certain times, as part of the Donegal Garden Trail; they are not too formal but beautifully designed, extensive and well-maintained - they really enhance a visit here, as does the waterside location: guests have direct access to the foreshore at the bottom of the garden.
Family furniture collected through a Hong Kong connection adds an unexpected dimension to elegant reception rooms that have views over the front lawns towards the sea, and the generous, comfortably furnished bedrooms.
Accommodation includes two single rooms and there is a shared bathroom; although the house is large, the guest bedrooms are close together, so the rooms sharing a bathroom are ideal for a family or a group travelling together.
Home-produced eggs are a treat at breakfast, which is the only meal served - guests are directed to local restaurants in the evening.
Self-catering accommodation is also available all year, in a two-bedroomed gate lodge.
Rooms 4 (2 en-suite, 2 single, all no-smoking) B&B €65pps, no ss. Weekly rates also offered. Garden, equestrian, walking, fishing. Pets permitted in certain areas. Closed 1 Oct-31 Mar. Amex, MasterCard, Visa.
