Byrnes Restaurant
Located in a fine period house at the top of this old market town, Byrnes is a stylish high-ceilinged restaurant with views of Ennistymon's famous cascading river from the airy restaurant and an extensive outdoor dining area at the rear of the house.
The Byrne family offer genuine hospitality and this, when wedded to contemporary style and ambitious standards of food, should ensure that a visit here will not disappoint.
The surroundings - stylish, airy and yet cosy, with gentle music - are conducive to relaxation, and a warm welcome from Richard Byrne gets guests off to a good start.
Mary Byrne is a skilful chef and everything is freshly cooked to order - her fairly short but well-balanced menu offers contemporary Irish cuisine with an emphasis on fresh local seafood and local meat, and there are always interesting vegetarian options.
Gravad lax is something of a signature dish and makes an excellent starter with home baked bread; fish dishes are simple in style but very good to eat, and tender lamb shank may be served with delicious cabbage flavoured with bacon.
Leave room for desserts such as a more-ish chocolate cake and delicious home made ice creams.
Prices are reasonable for the quality with an early bird and Dinner/B&B deals offering especially good value.
A short but well chosen wine list includes plenty of half bottles and wine by the glass.
