Renamed Cabra Castle in the early 19th century, this impressive hotel is set amidst 100 acres of grounds, with lovely views over the Cavan countryside. Although initially imposing, with its large public rooms and antique furnishings (and even suits of armour in the foyer), the atmosphere is relaxing.
The bedrooms vary in size and outlook, but all are comfortable and individually decorated; accommodation includes some ground floor rooms suitable for less able guests and, in addition to rooms in the main building, there are some rooms in an extension which are particularly suitable for families - and six cottages have recently been built, adding 27 rooms and allowing a self-catering option for some guests.
There are also some romantic beamed rooms in a converted courtyard, providing modern comforts without sacrificing character.
The combination of formal background and easy ambience make this a good venue for private and business functions; it is popular for both weddings and conferences.
