One of Killarney’s most popular and consistently pleasing dining destinations, this smart high-ceilinged restaurant feels spacious and is attractively set up, with simple darkwood tables echoing the polished wooden floor, and contrasting cream leather used on high-backed chairs and bar stools.
This Killarney Restaurants menus have an emphasis on sociability and are international in style; they include a midweek early dinner and a set dinner with no time restriction - both of which offer outstanding value - as well as an à la carte and daily specials for all courses.
Sharing dishes, like the Chapter 40 Tasting Plate, get a meal with friends off to a lively start, or you could begin with the carpaccio of tuna which is imaginatively served with crumbed oysters and pickled mooli. Follow, perhaps, with a hearty dish of beef or game in winter - or, in summer, a seafood plate which is always good and includes a wide range of fish and seafood such as baked salmon, sautéed garlic crab claws and mussels, panfried brill, tempura of prawns, and brochette of monkfish.
Prettily presented desserts are hard to resist - chocolate is a timeless favourite (a gorgeous brownie, perhaps, with hazelnut foam and honeycomb ice cream...), or you could finish with a trio of Irish farmhouse cheeses served with crackers, chutney & grapes.
The wine list is not overlong, but well selected to match the food and with half a dozen available by the glass.
A lively atmosphere and creative yet honest cooking along with value (all main courses include vegetables) and friendly, professional service are the reasons for this restaurant’s success; as it’s always busy, reservations are essential, especially at weekends.
