Deli on the Green

Across the yard from The Loft at The Linen Green (see entry), the stylish Deli on the Green offers table service and a slightly more leisurely pace.

Besides a classy deli (choose your lunch or pick up the makings of a picnic from the selection of quality local and more exotic foodstuffs) there is café style seating, for coffee and snacks, and a bistro, where the contemporary cuisine is reflected in a stylish combination of bare stone and glass, blond wood tables, high-backed cream leather chairs and aubergine banquettes.

Seasonal, frequently changed menus reflect proprietor Claire Murray’s commitment to profiling quality local produce including Kettyle’s dry-aged beef, Moyallon sausages, Ditty’s oatcakes and Tickety Moo Jersey Ice Cream – and there’s a guarantee of no GM foods.

Breakfast includes grilled bacon, roasted sausage, baked tomato, field mushroom and choice of egg, served with toast, then lunch can be as simple as you want to make it, from the salad and cooked meats deli display, or wholesome hot dishes from the bistro.

Then, in the evening, the tea lights and relaxing music herald a mood move: a select menu, stylish presentation, comprehensive wine list and good service from well-trained staff all create a sense of occasion.

Begin with deli breads with homemade soup, or smoked salmon with toasted brioche, poached egg and hollandaise, then follow with Lough Erne loin and breast of lamb, fondant potatoes, leeks and rosemary jus; Kettyle dry aged sirloin, or free range Fermanagh chicken with Provencal vegetables, basil gnocchi and tomato fondue; accompanied by an interesting choice of side orders.

Finish with a delicious dessert such as strawberries and cream pannacotta with lime granita, or a selection of cheeses with Robert Ditty’s oatcakes. A nice wine list includes an interesting Deli house selection of half bottle and some mini bottles too.
