Dollakis Restaurant

This cheerfully cosmopolitan little restaurant burst onto the Enniskillen dining scene in 2008 and, with an experienced team of various nationalities who all arrived here via Café Merlot, it immediately found a niche.

Although quite small the décor has a pleasantly contemporary airy feel, and a very large window looks out towards Cole's Monument with lots of mature trees.

Tightly packed tables are laid bistro style, music including the odd rendering of Zorba the Greek puts customers in a light mood and menus, simply worded in the continental style, reflect the various national identities involved and offer something new for Enniskillen.

As well as an obvious Greek influence in dishes like spanakopita, tzatziki, Greek pitta burger, Greek salad and Dollakis pikilia platter, there are also northern European dishes like gravadlaks and wiener schnitzel (and speciality beers, too from Spain, Madeira and Germany, in addition to the wine list).

But these people know their market and you’ll find plenty of standards too, especially on the evening menu and for Sunday lunch; things such as pan fried black sole, mixed grill of the day, (though this has a twist, with the meats served on a skewer), traditional aged sirloin steak (or as a roast on Sunday), and soup served with welsh rarebit.

Vegetarian tastes are well enough catered for with salads, and mains such as filled courgette, stuffed with rice and Mediterranean vegetables.

Skilful service is a special feature (eg filleting whole fish on hot plates in the restaurant, adding a bit of theatre too) and, outside of the main lunch and dinner times, they cater for early callers with freshly squeezed orange juice (proper continental press) and coffees and teas with freshly baked croissants.

A blackboard outside also advertises tapas in the afternoon too. With tasty cooking, great service and very good value too, this place is sure to succeed.

Seats 40 (outdoors, 6); children welcome (high chair, childrens menu, baby changing facilities); air conditioning. Open L & D Tue-Sat, 12-4pm & 5.30-10pm; Sun L only 12-4pm; set Sun L £17.95; otherwise a la carte. House wine £12. Closed Mon, 26 Jan- 9 Feb; 1 Sept-14 Sept. MasterCard, Visa, Switch.
