Donnybrook Fair Café

The sleek looks of the exterior of Dublin's chicest supermarket, Donnybrook Fair, are matched by some equally sleek products on the shelves: fine food produce from around the globe jostles with local producers' goods as well as delectable treats from the fish and deli counters.

Up a spiral stairway from the shop floor you'll find Donnybrook Fair Café, a bright and airy space where the menu features plenty of old reliables, with starters including simple soups and salads, and chicken liver paté, while main courses include good meats - rack of lamb, rib-eye steak - and a wide choice of fish.

This Dublin restaurants desserts will please lovers of golden oldies such as chocolate brownie cake, vanilla crème brûlée and mandarin cheesecake.

The eclectic wine list contains plenty of moderately priced wines, as well as more expensive wines by the glass.

Although it sometimes struggles to keep up with the high end produce found below, this smart café remains a popular place to meet for a bite.
