The Glen Country House
Although classified (correctly) as a farmhouse, Guy and Diana Scott's home is an elegant period house and they have recently renovated it to a high standard for guests.
It is quietly located in a beautiful area, and the four large double bedrooms have lovely views across Courtmacsherry Bay. There's even a family suite (consisting of a double room and children's room, with interconnecting bathroom) and guests have the use of a comfortable sitting room, and a dining room where breakfasts are served - a buffet with fresh and poached seasonal fruits, freshly squeezed orange juice, organic muesli and organic yoghurt, and a menu of hot dishes including bacon produced locally from free range pigs and eggs from their own hens.
It's a relaxed place, where dogs are welcome to join the two house spaniels (guests' horses are welcome too!) and, although there are no dinners, evening meals and baby sitting are offered for children, allowing parents to go out to one of the excellent local restaurants - Casino House and Dillon's of Timoleague are nearby.
Unusually, the Scotts produce their own fuel (oats) for heating the house and water.
Rooms 5 (all en-suite & no smoking, 4 shower only, 1 family room); children welcome (babies free in parents' room, cot available without charge, baby sitting arranged); free broadband wi/fi; B&B €75 pps, ss €10. Garden. Pets permitted (stay in kennel/outhouse). Closed Oct-Easter. Heli-pad. *Self catering apartment also available, sleeps 4. MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
