Gresham Metropole Hotel & Leisure Centre

This imposing city-centre hotel next door to the Everyman Palace Theatre and backing on to the River Lee, celebrated its centenary in 1998.

Always popular with those connected with the arts and entertainment industry, there are many displays (photos and press cuttings) of stars past and present in the public areas and the atmospheric, traditionally-styled Met Tavern. Many of the hotel's original features remain, including the marble facade, exterior carved stonework and plaster ceilings.

Recent refurbishment has greatly improved the bedrooms, most of which now combine a period feel with modern facilities, and care has been taken to bring previously neglected areas back to their former elegance by, for example, correcting ceiling heights which had been changed in previous 'improvements'.
