Hotel Minella

The Nallen family's pleasant hotel is attractively located in its own grounds, overlooking the River Suir and Clonmel town.

When checking in, a friendly tone is established from the outset, with an invitation to guests to help themselves to fruit from a bowl of Con Traas's delicious apples - from The Apple Farm, nearby at Cahir (see entry) - and you will also find his fruit juices among other local products in the bar and restaurant.

The original house was built in 1863 and was purchased in 1961 by the Nallen family. They’ve extended the hotel several times over the years, most recently to add a penthouse floor offering especially spacious and luxurious bedrooms and four suites with balconies.

The existing rooms have also been recently refurbished and upgraded; all are furnished to a high standard with smart bathrooms - and housekeeping is exemplary. This is the main hotel in the area, popular for weddings, with conference facilities and a fine leisure centre.

The public areas in the old house include a cocktail bar, restaurant and lounge areas. A very good breakfast is served in a ground floor riverside dining room.

Rooms 90 (4 suites, 5 junior suites, 80 no smoking, 3 for disabled, 13 ground floor, 10 family rooms); B&B from €60 pps. Children welcome (under 16 free in parents' room, cot available without charge, baby sitting arranged). Broadband. Leisure centre with 20m swimming pool and outdoor Canadian hot tub, jacuzzi, steam room and gym; tennis, fishing, garden. Closed 23-29 Dec. Amex, MasterCard, Visa, Laser. abbreviations
