La Mére Zou
Eric Tydgadt's French/Belgian restaurant is situated in a Georgian basement on the north side of the Green. The style is now leaner-lined and fresh, but the essence of the restaurant hasn't changed since it opened in 2000.
The reputation of La Mére Zou is based on classic French/Belgian country cooking, as in rillette of pork with toasted baguette or steamed mussels with French fries and prices are reasonable - a policy carried through to the wine list too.
The lunch menu - which offers a choice of three dishes on each course - also suggests six or seven more luxurious seafood dishes from the á la carte, or, at the other extreme, they offer a range of Big Plates, with a salad starter and a main course served together on a king size plate.
This is one of Dublin's most pleasant and most reliable restaurants with a sister establishment, La Péniche, on the Grand Canal (see entry).
