Monks Bar
This famous pub has been drawing people along to the pier at Ballyvaughan since 1981. It's an informal, cottagey kind of a place with several small bars, open fires and a reputation for informal service of fresh seafood, especially crab: crab claws in garlic butter, open crab sandwiches, seafood chowder, poached local mussels and seafood platters are all typical.
This isn't really the place for anyone who doesn't like seafood, although there's always a vegetarian dish of the day and a chef's special.
Seats 110 (outdoors, 60; private room 28); children welcome (high chair, childrens menu, baby changing facilities); wheelchair friendly. Food served 12 noon-9 pm daily (to 9.30pm Fri-Sun). A la carte. house wine from €19.50. Live traditional music (Thurs, 7-9pm & Sun 4-6pm). Closed 25 Dec, Good Fri. Amex, Diners, MasterCard, Visa, Laser
