Nirvana Restaurant, Wine Bar & Cafe

A chic reception area, with soft seating and a smart designer bar where guests can relax both before and after dinner, sets the tone at Gerry and Brid Kelly’s stylish restaurant - which is off the beaten track on the Mall.

Open since 2007, and ably assisted by their son Kevin, they have filled a niche in the local market by offering a variety of quality food in very pleasant surroundings. Evening menu choices include a comprehensive à la carte menu, and a tempting pizza menu with some interesting topping combinations; during the summer there may be special themed menus, such as one focused on Spanish cuisine.

The contemporary dining area helps provide a very pleasant ambience in which to enjoy local chef David McCadden’s special dishes using quality ingredients - venison steak on a bed of mash with a pink peppercorn sauce, perhaps, or baked fillet of codling infused with lemongrass and lime topped with a crispy dill stuffing and pesto dressing.

Desserts are traditional with a selection of Irish cheeses also offered. The wine list is not long but suits the food well, and includes a fair number of choices under €20. Light meals are available during the day.

With pleasing surroundings, a wide range of food to suit varying occasions and good value, this place looks set to be a success.
