The Pembroke
There was consternation amongst traditionalists when this fine old pub was given a complete makeover some years ago, creating the bright and trendy bar that it is now - it even has a cyber café in the basement.
But, if the cosiness of old has now gone for ever, the spacious new bar that took its place has character of its own and, along with some striking design features (notably lighting), the atrium/ conservatory area at the back brings the whole place to life and there is space for a large number of outdoor tables.
Meeting the needs of those who get in to work before the traffic builds up, bar food begins with an impressive breakfast menu offering everything from cereals or muesli to the Full Irish, with all sorts of more sophisticated treats like scrambled egg with smoked salmon. Later menus offer appealing hot dishes and a range of bar snacks.
Seats 200 (private room 60, outdoor seating 80). Food served Mon-Sat, 7.30am-8pm. Closed Sun, Christmas & Good Fri. Amex, Diners, MasterCard, Visa, Laser.
